How Iqbal uses it

The Holy Spirit (ruh-ul-qudus), identified in Islamic tradition with the angel Gabriel, the bearer of revelation to the prophets, and by whom Jesus is said in the Quran to have been strengthened. In Iqbal's imagery this spirit of sanctity and revelation stands for the highest inbreathing of divine life, the quickening power that lifts the human spirit toward its Source.
