Persian · noun · The Heart & the Body

Rukh

रुख़
said RUKH
also written: rukh-e, rukhsaar
Meaning

The face or cheek; also, direction or aspect.

Literally: face, cheek

Usage & notes

Rukh is the beloved's face — the luminous countenance the lover lives to behold, often set as bright day against the night of the dark tresses (zulf). It is beauty's center, the source of the light the whole poem orbits. In mystical reading the radiant rukh is the face of the Real, the self-disclosure of the Beloved that the dark veil of the world both hides and frames.
