Arabic · noun · Character & Virtue

Sabr

सब्र
said SABR
also written: sabr, sabar, patience
Meaning

Patient endurance; steadfast forbearance in hardship as a spiritual virtue.

Literally: patience; steadfast endurance

Usage & notes

Patience — steadfast endurance of hardship and perseverance in obedience, a cardinal Quranic virtue ("God is with the patient"). Iqbal honours sabr as inner strength, but distinguishes active, resolute endurance from passive resignation: the believer's patience is the steadiness of a fighter who holds firm under trial, not the inertia of one who has given up striving.
