Shafaq

Twilight glow; the red afterglow at dawn or dusk on the horizon.

Literally: Arabic shafaq: the redness of the sky after sunset or before sunrise.

The shafaq is the red glow on the horizon at dawn or dusk — the bleeding crimson of the sky at the edges of day, classically read as a wound, as spilled blood, or as the blush of the world. It is the beauty of the threshold hours. Iqbal draws on its red light for the colour of fervour and the kindling sky, the horizon stained as if with the heart's own fire at the turning of day and night.
