Tawadu

तवाज़ो
said ta-WAA-zu
also written: Tawazu, tawazu, tawadu, humility
Meaning

Humility; the lowliness of the seeker who effaces his self before God and creation.

Literally: humility

Usage & notes

Humility — lowliness before God and gentleness toward people, a virtue God loves and pride its opposite. Iqbal upholds humility before the Divine, yet draws a sharp line between humility toward God and servility toward men: the believer is meek before his Lord precisely so that he can be unbowed and dignified before every worldly power. False humility that masks weakness is no virtue in his ethic.
