jab bhi aata hai mira naam tire naam ke saath
jane kyun log mire naam se jal jate hain

Whenever my name is taken alongside yours — who knows why people burn with envy at my name.

The verse in Devanagari — it carries the authenticity of the original, and every Hindi reader can read it.

The Interpretation

The verse catches a small, sweet vanity — the speaker's name acquires worth only because it is spoken next to the beloved's. The feigned innocence of "who knows why" is the craft here: the poet knows exactly why people burn, and lets the false modesty carry the boast.

For You, Today

Notice when someone's irritation is really a measure of what you have — envy often points straight at your good fortune.

A playful mushaira favourite, it turns the jealousy of onlookers into proof of a love's standing.
