Khumaar is the heavy-lidded languor that lingers after wine — the sweet, aching half-drunkenness that craves the next cup, the morning-after thirst. In love-poetry it figures the soul's unslaked longing for the Beloved, the ravishing weariness of one who has tasted love and cannot have enough. It is the very ache that keeps the seeker returning to the saqi for more of the wine of grace.
