Masti

मस्ती
said MAS-ti
also written: mastee, mast
Meaning

Intoxication, ecstatic abandon; the joyous drunkenness of love or spirit.

Literally: intoxication, drunkenness

Usage & notes

Masti is the state of being drunk — and in Sufi verse the soul's intoxication on divine love, the rapture that overflows reason and decorum. It is not a stupor but an excess of life, the heart so full of the Beloved that it spills over. Iqbal prizes a masti that is generative — a drunkenness that gives the self heat, courage and creative urge — over any calm sobriety that merely keeps the rules.
