Sarmasti is intoxication carried to its height — total, head-to-toe rapture, the lover's whole being brimming over with the wine of divine love. It marks the peak of ecstatic absorption where the self is swept up beyond measure. Iqbal reaches for it to name the overflowing, world-shaping fervour of the soul fully alight with love, an intoxication that drives action rather than dissolving into trance.
