Arabic · noun · Love & Longing

Maashooq

माशूक़
also written: Mashooq
Meaning

The beloved, the one who is the object of passionate love (ishq).

Literally: One who is loved (from ishq).

Usage & notes

Maashooq is the beloved as the pole of ishq, paired with the aashiq (lover). In Sufi metaphysics the true Maashooq is the Divine; Iqbal works within that elevation of the loved one.
