Qaraar

क़रार
said qa-RAAR
also written: Qarar, qarar, qaraar-e
Meaning

Rest, repose, settled calm; stability.

Literally: rest, repose, peace of heart

Usage & notes

Qaraar is the rest the lover has lost — the peace and settledness of heart that vanishes the moment love strikes. The ghazal speaks of it almost always in the negative: the beloved has stolen his qaraar, robbed him of all repose. Only nearness can restore it, and so qaraar names exactly what the lover lacks and longs for, the calm that lives only in the beloved's presence.
