Meaning
Familiar with idols; one whose heart is attached to false beloveds.
Literally: Sanam (idol) plus ashna (acquainted).
How Iqbal uses it
Iqbal warns that a sanam-ashna heart, still intimate with idols whether of stone or of worldly desire, cannot gain the fruit of namaz, since true prayer demands undivided love of the One.
