Persian · adjective · Love & Longing

Sanam-ashna

सनम-आश्ना
Meaning

Familiar with idols; one whose heart is attached to false beloveds.

Literally: Sanam (idol) plus ashna (acquainted).

How Iqbal uses it

Iqbal warns that a sanam-ashna heart, still intimate with idols whether of stone or of worldly desire, cannot gain the fruit of namaz, since true prayer demands undivided love of the One.
