aur bhi dukh hain zamane mein mohabbat ke siwa
rahaten aur bhi hain wasl ki rahat ke siwa

There are sorrows in this world other than the sorrow of love — there are comforts too, other than the comfort of union.

The Interpretation

This famous couplet quietly widens the world — love is not the only sorrow, union not the only comfort. The poet does not dismiss love so much as set it among the larger griefs and joys of the age. The turn reframes private heartache as one room in a far bigger house of human concern.

For You, Today

Your heartbreak is real, but it is not the whole of your life — there are other sorrows worth your attention and other comforts worth your reach.

One of Faiz's defining couplets, marking the progressive turn from purely romantic verse toward the wider sorrows of society.
