The Interpretation

The beloved is rendered as an arrogant wind, striding swiftly and indifferently onward, while the speaker remains a trembling flame of remorse. The contrast of movement and stillness carries the whole emotional weight — she advances, he only flickers. The image leaves the speaker exposed, unable to either follow or steady himself.

For You, Today

You cannot hold someone who has already moved on — and trembling in regret will not slow their wind.

A couplet that sets a proud, departing figure against a guttering flame to dramatise one-sided remorse.
