There was nothing wrong with him — we were the fools, cleaning the mirror clean from our own side.

The verse in Devanagari — it carries the authenticity of the original, and every Hindi reader can read it.

The Interpretation

The couplet delivers a quiet, self-aware confession — the fault was never the other person's. The mirror image is precise: they kept polishing their own side of the glass, never seeing that clarity could not come from one side alone. It captures the painful moment of realising you misjudged a relationship by misjudging yourself.

For You, Today

Before blaming the other person, check which side of the mirror you have been cleaning — some clouded reflections are your own work.

A couplet built on the mirror as a figure for a relationship that failed through one-sided effort and misplaced blame.
