Persian · noun · Spirit & the Divine

Banda-e-Momin

बंदा-ए-मोमिन
said BAN-da-e-MO-min
Meaning

The faithful servant; the true believer who embodies living faith.

Literally: the faithful servant; the true believer

How Iqbal uses it

Banda-e-momin is the faithful servant of God, a near-twin of Mard-e-Momin in Iqbal's vocabulary. The paradox he loves is that this servant, precisely by serving God alone, becomes free and sovereign before the world. His servitude to the divine is the very source of his refusal to serve any earthly master.
