Meaning

Will, pleasure, consent.

Literally: From the Arabic root r-d-w, to be pleased or willing.

How Iqbal uses it

Raza is glad acceptance of what God wills, a peace of heart that is not defeated by circumstance. Iqbal prizes the form of raza that aligns a strong will with the divine purpose rather than the form that becomes an alibi for surrender to oppression. For him true acceptance is active and dignified — the striver's serenity, not the fatalist's excuse for inaction.
