Maikhaana
The tavern or wine-house; in Sufi symbolism, the place of mystical gathering and divine intoxication, set against the mosque and seminary.
Literally: house of wine
The maikhana is, for Iqbal, the true house of the spirit against the hypocrisy of the formal pulpit. He repeatedly prefers its honest intoxication of love to the dry, lifeless devotion of the preacher.
Khumkhaana
A wine-cellar or tavern where the vats are kept; a poetic name for the house of mystical wine.
Kharaabaat
The tavern or wine-quarter, literally 'the ruins'; in Sufi poetry the place of self-annihilation where the wine of divine love is served.
Sharaab-khaana
A wine-house or tavern; the place where wine is served and drunk.
Dair
A cloister, temple, or place of non-Muslim worship; in poetry, the abode of the wine-server and the unbeliever.
